A matric from Webbstown Combined School, Cabazi, Xobho, wrote the exams for himself at a neighboring school on Friday, as the protest of parents who are unhappy about various things happening at the school continues.

This was revealed by the chairman of the school governing body (SGB), Mr. Morgan Shezi, when contacted byOf this country to comment on the protest that has been going on for a week at this school.

“It was forced that the matric was requested at another school in the Xobho area. We are worried,” said Shezi.

He admitted that there are complaints from the protesting parents, regarding three teachers who no longer come to the school where the principal is.

“It is true that they are not at school. There is an investigation, we are still waiting for its result. The parents are divided, there are those who are waiting like us, and then there are those who choose to protest,” said Shezi who did not want to expand too much with the speech, saying that the result of the investigation conducted by the inspectors is still awaited.

At the time It is a country learned about the matter through a source, it was linked to one of the protesting parents, who said they no longer want the principal of the school because he has failed to manage it for years.

Parent Mr. Mjabulisi Chiya said They have been writing to the Ministry of Education for some time about the problems plaguing the school, but they have not been answered.

He said they need the Minister of Education, Mr. Sipho Hlomuka, or the Head of Department, Mr. Nkosinathi Ngcobo, to approach them.

He told It is a country that there is a lot going on at school that parents are not happy about.

Among you there are teachers who do what they want at school, who arrive late, and leave before the school is out without clarifying whether they are being punished or where they are in a hurry.

He also pointed out that some students were ordered to stay at home due to the absence of a teacher to teach them.

“Students studying Grade 4 have been sitting at home since the beginning of the year. With the opening of schools, they came back with a message that the school was told that they should not continue coming because there is no teacher to teach them,” said Chiya.

Chiya went on to say that even in the upper grades of the school there is a similar problem as there are three subjects that cannot be studied because the teachers are not there.

He said they are worried about the education of students who are doing Grade 4, and he said they are also wondering what subjects that cannot be studied in higher grades will write as the end of the first quarter of the year exams are started.

He also revealed that as parents they found out that the school is paying for a paper mill that works in the principal’s cold business.

“We found out about this in 2023, when the school’s spending statements were being scrutinized. It turned out that the school was paying for two photocopiers while there was one in the school. When it was investigated, it turned out that the second one was in the headmaster’s cold business,” he said.

He also pointed out that there are donations made by private companies for the purpose of improving the school, but it is not known where they end up.

“The donation given by Transnet for the construction of toilets for the school was R100 000. It is not known where it went, it was never built and he never answered where it went,” said Chiya.

He went on to say that there was another one that was brought by the same company to build classrooms, which also ended up in the air.

He said that they have reported all this in the letters they wrote to the Department at the regional and provincial levels.

“We have chosen to protest because we see that we are writing letters that have never been answered by anyone. We want Hlomuka or Ngcobo to come to us and explain,” he said.

He pointed out that what makes them restless is the impact from the matric results as the school was at the bottom of 60% of local schools last year. He also said that they are also worried that the number of students is decreasing as some parents have been seen taking their children out of school and taking them to other schools.

It is too late to publish the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education has not yet breathed a sigh of relief on this matter.
