PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa says that the country is ready to intervene in the war between Iran and America.
Ramaphosa said that the country will intervene in any way if it is asked by the international organization, the United Nations (UN), to intervene.
He said this while speaking to the media after the Africa Energy Indaba meeting, which was held in Cape Town.
“We are always ready to participate. It can be that we become mediators or any role. When an opportunity arises or we are asked to participate, we do what we are asked to do. We are part of the world, that is why we take any role that the UN asks us to take.”
The war between Iran and the United States started over the weekend, with the United States supporting Israel.
The United States was struck with sympathy as the war ended with the leader of Iran, Mr. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and more than 700 people died.
Iran retaliated by raiding US military bases in neighboring countries including the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
Ramaphosa said he wants the war to end soon.
“We issued a statement in which we made it clear that we want the war to end. We want this madness to end. Donald Trump (American President) is very busy as the war continues. If there is an opportunity to talk to him, we will tell him to end the war. The easiest way to end the war is to sit down and talk. We want the war to end quickly. Many people die unnecessarily. Many countries are affected by the war.”
Ramaphosa said they will try to make sure that South Africa does not run out of food and other products from war-affected countries.
“I can honestly say that we are safe there, nothing will end.”
The war has disrupted travel in many countries as flights from Dubai have been disrupted.
Many flights from or to many international countries pass through Dubai.
Ramaphosa said that they are trying to contact the people of this country who are trapped in the war, and he said that they will provide them with the help they need.
Dubai is not short of celebrities who visit it regularly.
