WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG, she told herself that she would grow up to be a teacher because of her love and good communication with young children, she grew up having no problem living with them, taking care of them and teaching them some games.
However, all that changed and disappeared for Ms. Phumzile Nhlapo when she was in high school, when one of the teachers who taught her there, advised her mother that she would be fine if she entered the field of marketing after completing matric.
It is now history that Ms. Nhlapo from Boksburg, Gauteng, studied BCOM in Marketing and Honors in Marketing at the University of Johannesburg, graduating in 2013 and 2014 separately. These qualifications paved the way for him in the business industry, especially in advertising.
Ms Nhlapo is now the general manager of the marketing division of the company that makes food products Premier. In it, he is responsible for the marketing and distribution of food products made and fermented with flour, such as porridge and flour and ready to be eaten in the morning, a position he has held since 2024.
“It is surprising that I have reached this stage with the work I am doing, mainly because I grew up wanting to be a teacher, something that ended up not happening because of my mother’s consultation with my high school teacher, they agreed that it would be good for me to enter this industry.
“I remember that when I was still studying, I didn’t know much about this field, but as time went on, it ended up being something that I feel inside and I have achieved many things in my life and work,” said Ms. Nhlapo.
Continuing, he said that before working for Premier, he had worked for eight years in different companies dealing in sales and marketing of different products, which he said helped him to reach the stage he is in now.
“There are many things that I have done and participated in through my work, one of which is participating in the distribution and marketing of our different products – especially the campaign I recently participated in called Ziqhenye, with which we aimed to market our Nyala flour which is very popular in KwaZulu-Natal,” he said.
Regarding the plans for the future, Ms. Nhlapo said she wishes to move up to other positions and leadership positions, and to pass on the knowledge she will have to those who come after her.
