A large group of armed robbers raided Outdoorphoto, the well-known camera store’s branch in Fourways, Johannesburg, on Saturday and robbed the store of cameras, drones and mobile phones with an estimated value of approximately R5 million.
Four suspects have since been arrested and according to the store, the majority of the stolen items have been recovered.
However, the store will now remain closed until Wednesday.
Capt. Tintswalo Sibeko, spokesperson for the police, confirmed to Maroela Media on Sunday that a group of presumably 15 armed suspects entered and robbed the store at around 09:46 on Saturday.
However, the suspects were stopped on their way out by private security guards and four of them were finally arrested “as part of a coordinated effort between the SAPS and a private security company”.

According to Sibeko, the police were able to seize four firearms and ammunition. “Two Toyota Hilux vehicles which were allegedly used in the commission of the crime were also located.”
The four arrested suspects are expected to appear in court soon on charges of robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Outdoorphoto confirmed the incident in a statement.
“We are grateful to confirm that no customers or members of staff were injured during the incident,” the store said.
“We thank our customers and partners for their understanding and support.”
