Their lineout execution may have had a touch of the lineout caller’s garbled lotto numbers about it this season, but the Stormers’ scrum has yet to take a backward step to anyone, despite operating without two iconic influences this week.
Springbok props Steven Kitshoff and Frans Malherbe – both two-time World Cup winners – have moved on to Ulster and are convalescing from their Bok-to-Bok exertions, respectively.
But the surprising thing is that opposition teams have failed to locate the reverse gear of a Stormers scrum now manned by Neethling Fouche, Sti Sithole, Ali Vermaak and the modern scrummaging miracle that is Brok Harris, aged 38.
