Eskom is yet to provide crucial information for the approval of its nuclear licence from the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR).
On Tuesday, the power utility confirmed that it would need an additional month or two months to complete its tsunami and seismic survey, or in March or April. The survey is one of the requirements needed for the licence approval to extend the power plant’s life by 20 years.
A spokesperson for the NNR, Gino Moonsamy, said on Tuesday that March would be the last possible date for receiving the study if it is to process the license in time for the new license application for Unit 1 to be processed before the old one expires.
