WE HAVE DISCLOSED that the Durban And Coastal and Mental Health center that cares for the mentally disabled is losing about R2 million every month.

This was disclosed by the Chairman of the board of this institution, Mr. Sthandiwe Mkhize, when the institution had an event to re-introduce itself to the people. The event was held in Sherwood recently.

Speaking here, Mkhize said that it takes a lot of money to keep this type of institution working properly and all things happening properly.

He said that is why they are persuading other businessmen who may be interested in working with them to come closer and use each other so that everything continues to go smoothly.

”Actually, the money we lose reaches two million. But despite that, we continue because we understand very well the importance of keeping the people in this center,” he says.

He stated that the center is located in different parts of Durban. He said there are people who keep inside us and others outside.

He described this center as playing a very large role in ensuring that they are cared for at a high level and appropriate for people who are facing the brunt of the problem of mental disability.

”For some, everything was going well in life but they ended up in this situation because of the difficult situations they faced in life which ultimately took them and put them in this place,” he said.

He said that since they had just re-introduced themselves, they wished that the center would finally reach where it could not reach before.

The chief executive officer of the institute, Mr. Mbonisi Sibisi, said that they are in the process of ensuring that the institute reaches all African countries as well as overseas countries.

This he said he has no doubt that it will make its operation much easier.

He pointed out that they are an institution that depends heavily on donations to survive. He revealed that they have been supported by the Department of Community Development in KwaZulu-Natal as well as the Department of Health.
