DRIVERS woke up on Wednesday to the increase in the price of petrol and diesel in South Africa due to the increase in oil production caused by the ongoing war in Iran.
Petrol 93 unleaded and 95 unleaded increased by R3.06 per liter. 500ppm diesel increased by R7.37 and 50ppm increased by R7.51 per litre.
The government has announced that it has reduced the burden on drivers by reducing the general fuel levy by R3 for a while until next month when it will review that decision again.
However, the price of a liter of diesel costs a little less than R30.
The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, has previously released some tips that can help drivers save.
Here are the things they need to do:
Tires: Always check if the air in the tires matches the manufacturer’s specifications. This can save you 3 to 5% on fuel.
Stepping fat to lose: If you pedal well, leaving enough space between you and the car behind you, it helps you not to brake unnecessarily, and you can also help you save 15% on petrol.
RPMs: In manual cars, changing gears before reaching 3,000rpm helps you save on petrol.
Speed: If you reduce the speed by 20km/h it can help you save 20% on petrol
Reckless driving: This reduces fuel consumption by 15 to 30% on the highway and 10 to 40% in traffic on the way back. Keep calm when driving.
Unnecessary load loading: Remove unnecessary items from the car.
To bring the vehicle to a standstill: Stopping the car for more than 30 seconds wastes petrol. Sensors control how the latest cars consume petrol, eliminating the need to keep warming it up.
