The M1 bridge will cost the City of Johannesburg more than R20 million to repair following a fire caused by cable theft on 1 May.

This was announced during a media briefing on Wednesday to address the progress made to restore electricity to Braamfontein and fix the damage to the bridge.

Last Wednesday, cable thieves accessed the cavity in the M1 south by climbing up ropes from Carr Street.
