The growing animosity between political newcomers Rise Mzansi and the DA has reached boiling point in the Western Cape, with Rise Mzansi’s premier candidate, Axolile Notywala, accusing DA leader John Steenhuisen of making racist comments about new opposition parties.

“I want to address the issue of the DA and John Steenhuisen calling us ‘political mercenaries’ and suggesting that I am corrupt, suggesting that we are corrupt. I take serious offence to that,” Notywala fumed.

While some people might claim it’s just politics, Notywala said he took offence and described it as “dog whistle politics”.
