President Cyril Ramaphosa’s newly established government of national unity (GNU) offers South Africa an “amazing opportunity” to grow its economy, international scholar, Professor Mark NK Saunders of the University of Birmingham in the UK, has said.

Ramaphosa announced the 32-minister GNU Cabinet on Sunday and appointed 43 deputy ministers from the ANC, DA, IFP, PA, FF Plus, PAC, GOOD, UDM and Al Jama-ah.

Saunders, a professor of business research methods at the university’s business school, made the comment while addressing academics and state entity representatives in East London on Tuesday night at a session aimed at deliberating the importance of building relations between institutions of higher learning and policymakers. The University of Fort Hare organised the session.
