IT IS USUAL that a person who feels good that he is having a cold, ignores it because he thinks it is something that will pass. This can end up having a negative effect if that fever has convinced itself that it has crossed your bloodstream.
This is what Mr. Murray Hewlett, CEO of the private health center Affinity Health, says, warning people about the dangers of the flu and encouraging them to get vaccinated as it has been the African Vaccination Week (24 – 30 April).
“Every year the temperatures and colds change, which makes the body sometimes struggle to cope with those conditions. These changing conditions make it easy for you to sneeze often, cough or have pain that you don’t know what is causing your body,” said Hewlett.
Understand the difference between the common cold and the common cold.
Both of these types of flu are common and caused by certain viruses, but the difference is that those viruses cause the flu in different ways. A type of virus called rhinovirus is the most common. The symptoms of this flu manifest themselves gradually, such as a runny or blocked nose, slight sneezing, sore throat, cough and feeling tired.
The type of flu called the flu is caused by the influenza virus, it is the most dangerous, and it often manifests itself with these symptoms:
- Excessive body temperature up to more than 38°C
- Body pain especially in the wrists.
- Headache that doesn’t stop.
- Excessive fatigue.
- Severe cough that does not stop.
- Sore throat.
“The biggest problem is that this flu can knock you down if you don’t pay attention to it so that sometimes it causes other diseases such as pneumonia, blockage of air in the lungs and bronchitis, sinus infection; in some cases it can get so bad that you can suffer from asthma, heart disease and diabetes,” warns Hewlett.
The World Health Organization has revealed that these colds, which tend to intensify at certain times of the year, especially in winter, sicken millions of people around the world, and thousands of people die as a result. That is why it is important that people get vaccinated to reduce the chances of this negative impact.
“Vaccination helps to protect you and make it less likely to catch the flu and other diseases, and protect family members and loved ones,” said Hewlett.
Here are some things you can do to protect yourself and get close to them:
- Hand washing usually uses soap and water.
- Use disinfectant products.
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
- Avoid close contact with sick people.
- Stay home if you are not feeling well.
