Hailed by his party as “one of the unsung heroes of South African democracy”, former DA MP James Selfe died on Tuesday, after dedicating 43 of his 68 years to South African democracy.
Selfe helped to draft the Constitution as a member of the Constitutional Assembly.
As a long-serving federal council chairperson of the DA, he oversaw the modernisation and growth of the party and spearheaded its lawfare campaigns in the face of growing corruption, which led to key jurisprudence in the fight against impunity.
