The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) is gearing up for a strike amid talks of looming retrenchments at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).

The union’s provincial secretary, Ayanda Zulu, told News24 on Friday that, towards the end of last year, they were informed via a letter that DUT had implemented a restructuring process for operational purposes.

Zulu said they believed the university was using the process to purge certain workers.
