Two people were killed and six injured when armed men opened fire on people at a social gathering in Eldorado Park on Saturday evening.

The police say the attackers apparently started shooting randomly at people before fleeing the scene on foot.

According to Brig. Brenda Muridili, police spokesperson, said the incident took place around 22:30.

“When the police arrived at the scene, the officers found two people who had already been pronounced dead by paramedics. Another six people suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.”

According to Muridili, the shooting took place during a social gathering on a premises in the neighbourhood.

“A group of about eight unknown men entered the yard and apparently immediately started shooting randomly at the people before they fled the scene.

“No suspects have yet been arrested and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage,” said Muridili.

She added that investigators are currently following up on all possible leads to track down the culprits.

“The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.”
