The police in the Western Cape are conducting an inquest after two boys were playing on a sand pile on Hopefield on the West Coast on Monday and presumably suffocated after it gave way.

Sgt. Wesley Twigg, police spokesperson, said when asked that the incident happened at 15:10 in Duyneveld Street.

A third friend who was with these victims jumped away just in time and went to look for help. However, it was too late.

The boys have since been identified on social media as Alceno and Jerano.

They were 13 and 15 years old respectively and paramedics pronounced them dead at the scene.

“The circumstances of the incident are being investigated,” says Twigg.

Maroela Media has meanwhile learned that the friend who saw the incident happen is still too shocked to speak to the police. He is currently receiving medical assistance.

The respective families could not immediately be reached for comment.
