The probe into an alleged holiday scam has intensified, with police stepping up efforts to unravel an apparent fraud scheme which fleeced nearly 80 pensioners of millions of rand and a dream vacation to Thailand.

Eighteen victims in the Helderberg area came forward, providing sworn statements, Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said on Wednesday.

The cases initially registered at the Strand SAPS were escalated to the provincial Commercial Crime Investigations Unit.
