Three members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at UCT have laid a charge of fraud against three other members after R101 000 was spent on a public lecture attended by Eskom’s former interim CEO, Matshela Koko, and advocate Dali Mpofu SC.

The three DA Student Organisation (DASO) members lodged the charge with the university’s Student Governance Court (SGC) on 1 May.

The three alleged SRC president Hlamulo Khorommbi, secretary-general Babokile Rakhale, and treasurer-general Aurelio Mahlangu claimed the full SRC voted in favour of the R101 000 budget for the event – a claim the DASO members denied.
