The Parliamentary Committee wants them to clean up all the money they spent improperly, government employees who were found to be ghosts.

This committee of the Department of Public Works and Administration wants things to be strengthened in government departments, to end the problem of ghost workers.

The chairman of the committee, Mr. Jan de Villiers, said they accept the report released by the Treasury Department, which revealed that about 4,323 ghost workers have been discovered.

He said this points to corruption in the system of payment of employees in government departments.

“We have always called for an investigation into ghosts in the government. This revelation of so many ghosts, restores hope and strengthens the employment of public funds,” he said.

He said they want these workers to clean up all the money they have spent through corruption.

“We want them not only to return the money but also to be arrested and prosecuted for corruption. We want them to be sentenced for these crimes.”

He appealed to the Department of Treasury and Public Works to speed up and complete the investigation.

“We don’t want there to be a delay because there may still be some who are still in the government. Most of the money in the budget goes to the salaries of the workers, so corruption must be broken from its roots,” he said.

He said that workers who fail to identify themselves when an investigation is conducted, must be taken seriously.

“We are also pleased with the plan to improve the system for paying employees in the government to eliminate corruption. We are also grateful for the cooperation of the departments, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, when conducting research on ghosts.”

In the recent national budget, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Enoch Godongwana, revealed that they are fighting a war of ghosts in the government.

He said they want to improve things by changing the system of paying workers to fight this corruption.

De Villiers said they also accept R3.7 billion to encourage civil servants to retire early.

In this way, efforts are made to reduce the maximum share of the payment of government employees.

“We want to know what will be done so that people with experience don’t end up leaving. We don’t want important positions to be left without someone with experience in that job.”

It is an issue on the way to encourage workers who are about to retire to leave the field early so that the young people who are not shy in this country can be employed. In this way, the number of young people will be reduced as it is a bomb that may explode at any time due to the increase in the number of unemployed youth in this country.
