Two suspected armed criminals were shot dead and one was injured during a shootout with the police in KwaMsane at midnight on Tuesday.

Hluhluwe police received a report from a man who was robbed by armed suspects in the area.

The police responded quickly and a vehicle matching the description as stated was seen traveling on the N2 heading south. The police then sought the help of the Mkhanyakude District Task Team. The pursuit of the suspects continued from Hluhluwe to Msane when a shootout broke out between the police and the suspects.

The three suspects are believed to have been seriously injured, however the third suspect woke up while the forensics were taking pictures and was taken to the hospital under police guard. Three guns were recovered from the suspects, and the police are still looking for at least three suspects who asked for money. No police officer was injured during the shootout.
