It was troubling him why so many hair products didn’t work properly for him. He refused even when he bought an expensive one, but it did not do the job of brightening and softening the hair like others.

This is how the idea of a hair products business started for Ms. Londani Musimanyana, the owner of Londi Botanical Moisture – a company that makes different types of hair products that help to moisturize and shine without causing them to break or itch.

Ms Musimanyana, originally from Thohoyandou, Limpopo, but now based in Glenwood, Durban for work, revealed that she started researching and looking for information on how to combine hair products while she was studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Johannesburg in 2015.

“I was tired of using hair products that I could clearly see were not working for me, so I bothered to find out how to apply products that would not harm my scalp and hair and that were compatible with my skin.

“The research made me see and understand that there is a type of hair that does not require you to use anything like mine, but requires you to use different products that are not mixed with a lot of chemicals, and then I built on that in 2019 and made it a business,” Ms. Musimanyana said.

Continuing, he said that his business is growing and is very useful for people, especially those with unique hair like his, which has helped him to be able to put his products on Amazon and Takealot online stores.

“One of the things that works for us is that our products do not only help women. There are also products that are good for men’s hair and that help them put on their face well and can be used well on their beards, which they seem to be interested in,” he said.

He said, however, it was not easy when he started as he had to work hard to acquaint people with his business and what it does, which he said did not settle well and he started to see the difference and profit.

“Currently I am working with one employee who helps me run and speed up the work of our customers. It takes about three to five days to mix and match our products so that they are ready for customers,” said Ms. Musimanyana.

He said that although his business is known throughout KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, that is not enough for him as there is still much he intends and wishes to achieve in the next few years.

“One of those is to use my business knowledge to empower other businessmen who come after me, and sharpen those who love to prosper in this industry,” he said.
