The KING of masked music, Sipho “Thwalofu” Khoza, will be honored at the Benefit Gala Dinner at the Bon Hotel Conference Hall, Mpangeni today from 3 pm.
The organizer of this event and the presenter of Khozi FM, Ayanda Msweli, started by thanking the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture for throwing a stone in the towel to make this event happen. He said that he went to the Ministry led by the Mecector Mr. Mntomuhle Khawula to plead to help the veteran.
“I came and reported the situation I saw at Twalofu’s house when I visited there.”
Msweli said he found out that although he receives a government grant for the elderly, it is not enough to meet the expenses he faces every day. He said that Thwalofu is living without health which is why he is going out and going to the doctors.
“Going up and down also requires money. If he is going to take pills, he should have something to put in his stomach.”
Msweli said that the proceeds from this event will help Thwalofu a lot in life. Msweli highly praised the power of her bucket with which she always collects donations and has built houses for more than five families, buried people and taught young people in higher education institutions.
Among the artists who will perform at this event are Makinka Hadebe and Sgwebo Sentambo.
Thwalofu (75) who hails from KwaBiyela, Obuka, Mpangeni, started singing in the 1970s, accompanying the music legend John “Phuzushukela” Bhengu, who called him the king of sweets.
As an independent singer he produced over 40 albums. He trained respected musicians in this role and his nephews, Sgwebo Sentambo and Hhashi Elihhlofe.
