He found sleep for the first time on Friday, the father of a student who was brutally murdered by her boyfriend in Siqungeni, Mthwalume, in July 2024, the killer was sentenced to life in prison.

This comes after the Scottburgh District Court sentenced Ntuthuko Sosibo (29) to life imprisonment for assaulting and killing Ms. Mandisa Cele (20). It also decided that he should not have a gun.

The deceased’s father, Mr Mzwandile Dlungele, said It is a country that he hasn’t had a good night’s sleep since his daughter was killed.

“I used to go to bed around 8 at night, at midnight my sleep was gone, and I stayed awake until almost dawn. If the case went to court, it would have been very difficult,” said Dlungele.

He said the sentence the court gave to the killer satisfied them as a family. He said that although we will not get his child back, they are happy that he will go to jail for the pain they have caused.

“What this boy did hurt us a lot, but we are satisfied with the sentence he was given. We just wanted him to receive a severe sentence,” said Dlungele.

“I fell asleep, something I didn’t know anymore. I was always informed when I was going to go to court. I will sleep and rest because the court has finally done justice,” he said.

He said that when they were inside the court before the murderer was sentenced, his family had laughed at one of them.

He revealed that the tables turned after the murderer was sentenced as they were laughing in court, and they came out to hear Nandi’s cries.

He said they were even confused as to where they had parked the car they were traveling in, they drifted away and looked elsewhere.

He told the newspaper that the killer was violent towards the deceased, and revealed that he even suspended him from school twice, which led to him being disturbed in his studies.

“When he was living on the support of his mother, he came to torture her. One day he killed all the windows in the house. I went there to ask him to explain why he killed them, but he ran away,” he said.

Women of Mthwalume, a women’s organization in the area, Ms. Nombuso Sibisi, said: “We are very happy with the sentence he received, but we are very disappointed that there are parents who support their children when they do something like this. We are also disappointed by the contempt shown by the killer in court, he committed such a heinous crime, and continues to defy the court, journalists and the police.”
