Hungry Lions coach, Henry Basie, whose team is among the top five teams in the log, BONA is yet to win the Motsepe Foundation Championship league title.
The Lions, who avoided relegation last season, have won three of the five games they have played this year, lost one, and drawn one. It is in fifth place with 32 points from 19 games.
It is separated by four points from Milford FC and Kruger United which are the top teams in the Championship log with 36 points apart.
In third place are Cape Town City with 35, and Casric Stars in fourth with 34.
Lions will play Lerumo Lions in the Championship on Saturday at 3.30 pm, at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium, Upington.
“In the remaining 11 games, I see that things will change, all five of the top teams in the Championship log, including us, have the same chance to win the league if you look at the difference in points.
“So we got the form we are in right now at the right time when we really need the points.
“We will strive to maintain the same rhythm in each game we will play, including the one we will play against Lerumo on Saturday,” said Basie.
“I can say without a doubt that the Afcon break helped us a lot as a team in correcting the mistakes we had, and our players we recently signed were able to settle down.
“We have lost key players, including Muzomuhle Khanyi who was our trust last season but we were able to regroup the team with the others we got this season.
“Although the remaining games are not easy if you consider that we still have to play against teams like Baroka, Midlands (Wanderers), Gomora who are fighting to get off the field, before playing against Cape Town City and Milford who are in the same competition as us, but there is one that we will come back with points from,” said Basie.
Milford and Casric Stars will be playing in the quarterfinals at Nedbank on Saturday. Milford will face Sekhukhune United, while Casric will face MaZulu FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban.
