ALTHOUGH Manchester United and Liverpool are no longer in the race for the Premier League title this season, their match tomorrow is still considered one of the biggest in this English league.

United and Liverpool will meet at Old Trafford, Manchester, at 4.30 pm in a game that will have an impact on which team will finish in third place.

The Red Devils are still in third place with 61 points from 34 games. Liverpool follow closely behind in fourth place with 58 points from even matches.

Both teams are not comfortable as Aston Villa is in fifth place with 58 points.

However, there are high hopes that they will be among the five teams that will finish at the top of the log, and book a place in the UEFA Champions League next season since the team in sixth place, Brighton and Hove Albion, has 50 points.

United, managed by Michael Carrick, beat Brentford 2-1 in their last league game with goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko.

The Merseyside team will also come with a high following their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace with goals from Alexander Isak, Andrew Robertson and Florian Wirtz.

Although United need two points from the remaining four games to secure their place in the Champions League, Carrick said they should not stop there.

“Getting into the Champions League is an important thing, but it’s not something we should be too happy about. We want to continue collecting points in all the remaining games,” said Carrick on his team’s website.

Liverpool, who were defending the league title, had a difficult season due to dropping a lot of points. However, it brought back hope by collecting points and returning to being one of the teams that looks to return to the Champions League next season.

Wirtz, who is one of the players bought by this team this season with the aim of keeping the trophy, said that they need to stop stumbling in the remaining games.

“It was important that we return with full points in our game against Crystal Palace to achieve our goal of playing in the Champions League next season. We know that the work is not over because we still have big games to come,” said Wirtz on the Liverpool website.

Apart from this game, there is still an intense title race between Arsenal, who leads with 73 points in 34 games, and Manchester City with 70 points in 33 games.

The Gunners are under pressure to win again when they face Fulham at home today at 6.30 pm.

If he does that, he will pass on the challenge to City as Pep Guardiola’s team will play on Saturday night where they will face Everton away.

Although it has been confirmed that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley FC will play in the second division next season, it is not yet clear which third team will be relegated.

Tottenham Hotspur is the one in danger since it is in 18th place with 34 points from 34 games.

Other unsafe teams are West Ham United, with 36 points, Nottingham Forest with 39 and Leeds United with 40 points. All three have played 34 games.
