In South Africa, the country of France has withdrawn the invitation issued by the president for the country to join the G7 conference scheduled for June.

According to the report of the SABC reporterSherwin Bryce-PeaseVincent Magwenya, the spokesperson for the president’s office said that the reason given is because of the ongoing pressure from the US, including threats to boycott the G7 summit. Therefore, they could not risk missing out on an important member of the G7, hence the withdrawal of the invitation to South Africa. French president Macron was the one who gave president Ramaphosa an invitation during the G20 summit in Johannesburg.

“The process of resetting relations with the US is still ongoing. We are committed to negotiating with the US to resolve any disagreements they have with South Africa. It is important that our relations with these two countries and France remain strong and will not be changed by their withdrawal of the invitation to attend the G7 summit,” said Magwenya.
