The ANC says it is concerned about the emergence of a website campaigning for a candidate, Mr. Pratrice Motsepe, to lead the organization in next year’s conference.
The spokesperson of the ANC, Mrs Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, said that the emergence of the website could disrupt the election campaign.
Saying this after the campaigner who wanted Motsepe to lead the ANC took another step as they came up with a website promoting Motsepe.
Motsepe is expected to enter the race to lead the ANC in the conference to be held next year.
The documents on the website PM27 We agreed, say that Motsepe can solve the problems plaguing the ANC and the country.
“Motsepe is an honest leader, he has a keen eye and knows how to bring people together. Motsepe can lead the ANC and South Africa with integrity.”
The website promises that Motsepe will fight corruption.
“More than R1.5 trillion has been stolen over the past ten years. This has caused people to no longer trust the ANC and the government. Motsepe will fight corruption.”
The website goes on to say that Motsepe will take up the issue of the high number of unemployed people.
“Official statistics show that 32% of people are unemployed here in South Africa, 45% of unemployed youth. These statistics clearly show that we urgently need a leader with strategies to create job opportunities.”
Mrs. Bhengu-Motsiri said the ANC’s executive committee agreed to stop the campaigns for positions so that the members of the organization can focus on the campaign for the upcoming local government elections.
“We stopped all campaigns because we wanted ANC members to remain united and focus on humanitarian work. Those who are running campaigns are doing the opposite of what we agreed on. All ANC members are preparing for the local government elections. Campaigns for positions will disrupt all the plans we have.”
Mrs Bhengu-Motsiri said action will be taken against those who violate the law.
“We will not allow people who do not want to follow the law to dissolve the organization. We will take measures in accordance with the goals of the organization.”
According to the website, Motsepe has never publicly said that he will enter the race to lead the ANC.
In the past, t-shirts have appeared with texts supporting Motsepe’s campaign.
The appearance of the t-shirts angered the Secretary General of the ANC, Mr. Fikile Mbalula, who said that action will be taken against those who have started campaigning for positions.
Motsepe is often seen at ANC conferences but has never contested for positions.
Apart from being a businessman, Motsepe is also the president of the governing body for football in the African continent, CAF.
