Severe staff shortages at the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) have delayed its approvals of grant funding for NPOs. 

The commission has said a shortage of distributing agency members has “strained” its operations, causing lengthy grant application processes and a delay in funding payments for existing NPOs or other projects. 

Distributing agents are responsible for considering and evaluating funding applications to determine which causes are eligible. The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition is responsible for the appointment of agency members.
