Springboks No 8 Jasper Wiese is off to Japan, where he will play for Urayasu D-Rocks for the 2024/25 season, the club announced on Monday.

Wiese left Premiership side Leicester Tigers at the end of the season after joining them in 2020 from the Cheetahs.

He will join former Springbok and now coach Johan Ackermann at the club, who saw the side promoted to division one next season.

“I am very excited to be a member of the Urayasu D-Rocks. I am looking forward to being a part of the squad and will play my best in every game to help the team win,” said Wiese on the Japanese club’s official website.

“I will do my best in every game to contribute to the team’s victory, so I ask all the fans for your support.”

Wiese, capped 27 times by South Africa, was on the replacement bench during the Rugby World Cup final against the All Blacks in France in October.

Wiese is still serving a six-match ban for foul play from a Premiership game last month. His suspension means he won’t be available for the upcoming Ireland and Portugal Tests and the two Rugby Championship games against Australia in August.
