Amid a proliferation of government communication channels, the Department of Social Development has defended its decision to launch and maintain DSDTV, its internet streaming platform.

DSDTV, which has no affiliation with the MultiChoice-owned DStv, was launched a year ago by the Department of Social Development as a channel to share content about the activities of the department.

The decision to create and launch the platform at a monthly cost of R81 000 was slammed by opposition parliamentarians.
