POLICE in KwaZulu-Natal have confirmed that security will be tight at the opening ceremony of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislative Assembly.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said they have done everything to ensure that today’s event is a success.

The opening ceremony of the Legislative Assembly will be held at the Woodburn Rugby Stadium, Pietermaritzburg.

Silo Misuzulu Sinqobile of Zwelithini will deliver the opening speech of the Legislative Assembly.

Netshiunda said that the police will be keeping a close eye, and he reminded the dignitaries who are guarded by private security guards that they will not be allowed to enter the venue with firearms.

“Special police teams will make sure that all dignitaries are safe. Every place will be guarded by special police teams. Private security guards are urged to respect the rules.”

Netshiunda said drones are not allowed in the venue.

“It is not allowed to fly near Woodburn Rugby Stadium. Only police and spy drones will be able to fly. Those who fly drones without permission will face the law.”

Netshiunda urged drivers to be patient as there are roads that will be closed.

The Prime Minister of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Thami Ntuli, will deliver a speech on the state of the province tomorrow.

Ntuli promised that he will speak about the issue affecting immigrants.

In a statement issued by his office, Ntuli said he will talk about the measures taken by the provincial government to ensure that immigrants follow the laws, and said he will touch on the issue of building and maintaining infrastructure including roads, health centers, schools and water infrastructure.

“Infrastructure is important for improving people’s health and the economy.”

Ntuli said he will present programs for economic development.

“Our aim is to reduce the number of unemployed women and youth. We will come up with plans to develop industries, agriculture, tourism, the township and rural economy. We will attract investors from here in South Africa and from abroad and the economy will grow.”

He said he will also explain the distance that has been traveled in fulfilling the promises made in his previous speeches.

It will be the third time Ntuli has given a speech on the state of the province since he assumed office.
