The South African Weather Service has forecast significant drops in temperatures in multiple regions, with some provinces reaching below 0°C as cold fronts and freezing conditions sweep across the country.

Impact-based warnings

A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for damaging waves between Port Edward and Sodwana Bay, leading to disruption of beachfront and harbour/port activities, difficulty in navigation, as well as small vessels at risk of taking on water and capsizing.

A Yellow Level 4 warning for damaging wind and waves has been issued between Plettenberg Bay and Port Edward resulting in disruption to harbours/ports, difficulty in navigation with vessels at risk of capsizing, as well as dragging anchors and breaking mooring lines.

Fire danger warning

Extremely high fire conditions are expected over the Khai-Ma Local Municipality in the Northern Cape.

Fine and cool conditions are expected in Gauteng.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

Mpumalanga will be fine and cold to cool but warm in the Lowveld.

Fine and cool to warm temperatures are forecast in Limpopo.

The North West will be fine and cool.

Fine and cold to cool temperatures are expected in the Free State.

The Northern Cape will be foggy in the morning over the southern interior. Otherwise, fine and cold to cool conditions are forecastm but it will be warm over the coastal regions.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh easterly to north-easterly, becoming north-westerly in the afternoon.

Misty conditions are expected over the south-western interior of the Western Cape in the morning, otherwise fine and cool to cold, but warm along the west coastal areas.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh north-easterly to easterly, becoming moderate to fresh northerly to north-westerly along the west and south-west coast in the afternoon, but strong south of Cape Point.

The expected UVB sunburn index is moderate.

The western half of the Eastern Cape will be fine and cool, but partly cloudy in the south-east.

The wind along the coast will be a light to moderate north-westerly in the morning, otherwise moderate to fresh north-easterly.

Cloudy conditions are forecast in the eastern half of the province in places along the coast, otherwise fine and cool temperatures are expected, but it will be cold with morning frost in parts of the north.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh south-westerly.

KwaZulu-Natal can expect fine and cool temperatures, but it will be cold in places in the west.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh south to south-westerly, becoming light to moderate from the evening.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.
