South African teenage sprinting sensation Bayanda Walaza won
the 100m final at the U20 World Championships in Peru on Thursday morning (SA
time).

Walaza, 18, stormed to gold in a time of 10.19 seconds.

His countryman, 19-year-old Bradley Nkoana, took bronze in 10.26.
Thailand’s Puripol Boonson finished second in 10.22.

Both Walaza and Nkoana were part of Team SA’s 4x100m relay side
that won silver at the Olympic Games in Paris earlier this month. 

There was also South African representation in the final of
the women’s 100m, where Viwe Jingqi finished fifth in 11.57.

On Tuesday, South Africa bagged a silver medal when JL van
Rensburg finished second in the men’s shot-put with a personal best throw of
20.74m.
