Lions coach Russell Domingo said the Cricket South Africa T20 competition still had importance in the national cricket set-up, especially with the T20 World Cup around the corner.

The T20 World Cup squad for the International Cricket Council showpiece event, to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America from 1 June, will be announced next week.

Not all of South Africa’s T20 selection contenders made the Indian Premier League cut, meaning the domestic T20 tourney that’s now at semi-final stage has become an important selection juncture for Proteas white-ball coach Rob Walter.
