South African private doctors interviewed by News24 say they vehemently oppose the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill, which is set to be signed into law on Wednesday.
Many threatened to leave the country or the medical profession altogether.
The bill proposes the establishment of universal healthcare in South Africa that is free to all citizens. Doctors, nurses, hospitals, and all health professionals would be paid directly by the state at a rate set by the government.
