A routine stop-and-search operation by the Western Cape’s Flying Squad on Saturday evening led to the discovery of a significant firearms cache and drugs worth R3 million.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said the operation began when vigilant officers noticed a suspicious-looking silver Ford double-cab bakkie.

They stopped the vehicle, searched it and its 28-year-old driver, unveiling an unlicenced 9mm firearm, various drugs, and a substantial amount of cash, Traut said.
