It’s official: South Africans will cast their vote in November.

Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed on Thursday that the municipal election will take place on Wednesday 4 November.

The date is not yet in the Government Gazette not proclaimed.

Ramaphosa announced the election date at a meeting in Boksburg. The date does not exactly come as a surprise to South Africans. It was widely expected that this year’s local elections would take place in the first week of November.

It was expected that the date would only be announced later this year.

Ramaphosa is currently meeting with ministers, prime ministers, mayors and municipal managers in the hope of finally finding a solution to the country’s water crisis.

The date of the next Local Government Elections is the 4th November 2026 as announced today by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa during a meeting of the #ExtendedPCC.
