The Freedom Front Plus initially backed the ANC’s proposal in a committee meeting, but it may dump the governing party and its coalition partners on the same vote if no information is provided on exactly which vehicles the council plans to buy.
If senior officials of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality do not provide more information on a proposed R25 million procurement of “security vehicles”, the Freedom Front (FF) Plus may make a U-turn on its vote after initially siding with an ANC-led coalition on the controversial item.
News24 recently reported that the ANC and its coalition partners were looking to purchase vehicles for yet-to-be-identified councillors and officials in a city that is battling to deliver services.
The ANC and its voting partners have been accused of ramming the vote through a finance and emergency committee meeting, hence the item will now be tabled at an upcoming council meeting.
