The police at the OR Tambo International Airport this week seized drugs with an estimated value of R2.8 million during routine operations.

According to the police, the first find was made on Wednesday when officers discovered crystal methamphetamine (tik) worth R2.2 million in a cargo warehouse.

The drugs were destined to be shipped from South Africa to the Philippines.

Police say the discovery was made during normal daily operations.

“The second drug seizure was made at another warehouse where eight large boxes of marijuana worth R672 000 were discovered,” the police said in a statement.

According to the police, the marijuana was shipped from Morocco to South Africa.

The police have confirmed that all the drugs have been seized while investigations continue to trace the persons behind the smuggling.
