If the EFF gains control after the 29 May general elections, it will resolve water issues in Hammanskraal within three months. This was the promise from EFF president Julius Malema at one of the party’s three Workers’ Day rallies in Gauteng.
Malema told Hammanskraal residents that resolving their water issues would be an urgent concern for his government because people had died after consuming unclean municipal water.
In May 2023, Hammanskraal became the epicentre of a cholera outbreak, with Health Minister Joe Phaahla confirming that numerous cases and 23 deaths had been recorded in Tshwane due to the water-borne disease.
