The Gauteng provincial government says it is aware of allegations related to a possible data breach of government information.
“The matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves and a preliminary investigation has already been launched to determine the facts and investigate the extent of the alleged breach,” says Elijah Mhlanga, spokesperson for the Gauteng government.
“It is going to be premature at this stage to speculate on the details while the investigation is ongoing. The necessary internal processes have been activated and the appropriate authorities involved to assist with the investigation.”
It was not immediately clear what information might be affected.
Mhlanga says the provincial government remains committed to the protection of government information and has given assurances that all systems and processes are managed in accordance with applicable legislation and security protocol.
“Further information will be released as the investigation progresses and further information is available.”
