The politicians death toll in KwaZulu-Natal has ticked up yet again with the killing of uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party regional elections manager Mxolisi Zungu, who was gunned down while walking with his wife in Mayville, Durban.
On Wednesday night, shortly after news of the incident started doing the rounds, MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela issued a generic statement about political violence affecting MK Party members, without mentioning Zungu’s name.
More than 150 politicians have been shot dead in KwaZulu-Natal since 2011, according to a report issued by South African Police Service (SAPS) in 2023.
