Limpopo police have arrested a foreign national after he was caught driving a suspected stolen vehicle in Polokwane on Friday.
The Limpopo SAPS Provincial Anti-Smuggling Task Team received a tip-off about a stolen vehicle that was going to be smuggled out of the country through the province.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect was identified as a Zimbabwean national.
He was caught driving in a white Toyota Fortuner on the N1 highway near the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
“The 33-year-old suspect was nabbed for cases of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and contravention of the Immigration Act during the anti-smuggling operation.
“Preliminary police investigations revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in the Alberton area in Gauteng on Wednesday,” said Ledwaba.

Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the arrest and commended police for the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
The suspect will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of possessing a suspected stolen motor vehicle, contravention of the Immigration Act and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
