  • Miss South African runner-up Bryoni Govender captivated audiences as she strutted her stuff in a crystal-encrusted gown during preliminary evaluations ahead of the Miss Supranational finale.
  • The finale will see Ecuador’s Andrea Aguilera crown her successor when the finale takes in Poland on Saturday.
  • Host Nico Panagio said audiences should expect a great show.

Johannesburg-born beauty queen and legal eagle Bryoni Govender was a vision in motion as she left the audience green with envy when she sashayed across the long platform during the elegance round of preliminary evaluation of judging for the upcoming Miss Supranational finale.

The pageant’s preliminary rounds reportedly comprised 40% of the overall evaluation process.

In a bejewelled green art piece by Juan William Aria, Govender went up against 67 other contestants vying for the coveted title when the grand finale takes place on Saturday in Nowy Sacz, Poland.

Per the Miss South Africa organisation, the dress took 200 hours to put together and featured 55 000 hand-placed and beaded crystals in shades of emerald, forest, sage, thistle, olive, mint chartreuse, lime, juniper, shamrock and fern.

In the confidence round, the 27-year-old walked with flair as she wore a gold bathing costume.

Before leaving the country for the pageant’s 15th edition, Govender said she had been “working tirelessly” to prepare mentally and physically.

“These preparations have included intense training sessions to enhance my physical fitness, catwalk, poise and stage presence,” she said.

“I have also been working with top-notch trainers to improve my communication skills and develop a strong and impactful voice. I always say that the most important thing for me when preparing for any competition is to have a positive and healthy mindset and to have put in all the necessary work.”

This will be the second time the Miss South Africa runner-up represented the country internationally after participating in the Miss Universe pageant in November last year, where she earned a spot in the top 20.

Survivor SA presenter Nico Panagio is expected to host the Miss Supranational finale. He will also host the Mister Supranational finale on Thursday, 4 July.

“I am so excited to visit Poland and be part of the fantastic production that will be shown live on Polsat and to many countries around the world on the 4th of July and 6th,” he said. “You can expect two great shows, and I am thrilled to join the Supra team.”

At Mister Supranational, South Africa will be represented by actor, presenter and medical doctor Fezile Mkhize.
