Thinus Ferreira reflects on the sad demise of Muvhango and how the SABC seems hellbent on barrelling down the road to becoming a hollowed-out TV shell that is just broadcasting repeats.

Following a series of similar terminations, the SABC’s decision to cancel Muvhango significantly widens the gaps in its foundational purpose as a public broadcaster. This move undermines the unique identity these shows brought and calls into question the essence of the SABC’s role in the media landscape.

To paraphrase the German pastor Martin Niemöller, first, the SABC came for Top Billing, Special Assignment, Isidingo, and High Rollers and cancelled them. I did not speak out because of how Siya Kolisi’s mansion looked inside, current affairs on television, and the conniving drama between Barker Haines and Cherel, which I didn’t care to watch.
