ALTHOUGH political parties have expressed concern about the R20 million funding for the Metro FM Music Awards in Durban this year, preparations are continuing as the nominees will be announced on Thursday.

The cry of the opposition parties appeared when the story was told that the awards will be funded with R20 million per year, out of the three that will be hosted in this city.

According to the report ofMercurywas discussed at the Economic Development Committee in the Thekwini Municipality where the ACDP councilor asked the reason for funding the event with this money.

The President of the Durban Ratepayers and Residents Association, Ish Prahladh, said that it was money that could have been better used to meet the needs of the community.

The spokesperson for the Municipality of Thekwini, Gugu Sisilana, was quoted as saying that the council approved last year that the awards be funded.

He said there was R10 million, and the manager of the council’s money was ordered to find another one.

These days the channel is talking about the fact that the nominees will be announced on Thursday from 6 pm.

On a weekday morning show broadcast by DJ Sabby and Candice Coulsen, it was pushed for this event and that the awards will be held on April 25.

The Metro FM Music Awards were last held in Durban in 2017 where the winners were awarded R100 000.

That year, the rapper Nasty C, who was recording at the Mabala Noise company, made a big splash.

He won four awards Best New Artist, Best Male Album, Best Hip Hop Album and Song of the Year for the song iHell Naw.
