Chief Justice Raymond Zondo spoke to the media after receiving the names of people who will take up positions in Parliament and provincial legislatures.
Chief Justice Raymond Zondo says that, as South Africa embarks on a process of crafting the seventh administration, the crucial role that separation of powers plays in constituting a new government will be revealed.
Delivering closing remarks during the handing over ceremony of the National Assembly lists for Parliament and provincial legislatures by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), Zondo said people often complained that the judiciary was “usurping” the powers of the executive authority.
Zondo told a packed lobby at the Constitutional Court in Braamfontein on Thursday that the day marked an important milestone in South Africa’s constitutional democracy.
