Since the 2020/21 financial year, the government has spent R1.3 billion on the VIP protection of members of the executive, Police Minister Senzo Mchunu revealed in response to a parliamentary question, at a time when VIP protectors are again under scrutiny after Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s security detail prevented a man from entering his own house this week.
