DStv Stream gets live TV update and brings back 2014 pricing. (MultiChoice)

MultiChoice has lowered the price of its DStv Stream Premium package to R699 per month, requiring subscribers to commit to a 12-month contract. 

The company started massively bleeding DStv Premium customers over the past years, a trend that accelerated drastically after concurrent live streams and limiting DStv decoder customers to just one DStv live stream per account.

The DStv Premium stream-only price of R699 per month is what DStv Premium cost a decade ago.

MultiChoice says:

The price point of R699, which is a R100 saving per month, will be available to all DStv Stream customers who take out a 12-month Premium contract.

The interface of the DStv Stream app has also been updated.

Marc Jury, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa, says, “We know that delivering the streaming experience our customers want means we need to stay at the top of our game.”

“This latest update is a big step forward, especially for live sports fans. It’s a fantastic way to dive into everything that SuperSport has on offer.”

According to MultiChoice, the updates are positively impacting the DStv streaming user experience, “resulting in a 23% increase in the number of series and movies streamed on demand, a 17% increase in the number of titles that customers have added to their watchlists, and an overall 8% increase in content watched on DStv Stream compared to the previous month.”

The DStv Stream app now has dedicated home pages for all channels with curated content, dedicated pages for sports tournaments—including previously played games, upcoming matches, and highlights—and a studios page where users can search for content according to studios like Disney or Warner Bros. Discovery.   

The update introduces eight new display types for video-on-demand rows, which encourage users to explore content beyond their usual selections. The “Explore More” section offers deeper dives into genres, collections, and curated content. 

New display formats now play trailers directly on the homepage, while live channels stream automatically upon landing on the page. MultiChoice says these real-time experiences are designed to keep users connected to current events.
