On Sunday, Golden Spurs were among the four teams that had advanced to the knockout stages of the Itireleng soccer tournament, in the informal settlement outside Pretoria.
But the tournament came to an abrupt halt after the ANC’s election campaign, headlined by former deputy president David Mabuza, invaded the soccer pitch.
Initially, six teams participated in the tournament. But the knockout games were delayed and then halted, leaving fans fuming and Golden Spurs’ coach, Benson Hlongwane, feeling disrespected.
